SANDY

My story begins in Oct of 2009 when i received a personal phone call from My doctor...

I have to say 2010 - 2012 has been a very long road to go down watching three very strong and courageous siblings fight for their lives with cancers the fear and pain they suffered was at times very hard to see , they taught Me so much about courage and strength , i can't even imagine what it must of felt like for them to fight for their lives , sad that Jeff and Ron lost their battle , very Happy Donna is in remission and so very thankful My cancer was such an easy road to go down.

In Jan of 2010 My brother Ron was dx with colon cancer , I was dx with ovarian cancer in May of 2010 and My brother Jeff with lung cancer in Aug of 2010 and My sister Donna with lymphoma cancer in Nov of 2011 Since then Both brothers lost their battle to cancer Jeff in Nov of 2011 and Ron In Sept of 2012 Donna is in remission and i am cancer free

My story begins in Oct of 2009 when i received a personal phone call from My doctor He had been looking over my files and wanted to know if he could do an ultrasound of my kidneys ( for over 20 years i have shown blood in my urine so has My grandmother Mother and 2 daughters ) He went on to say i know we have done many test over the years , but would like to do an ultrasound. I agreed 2 days later i had it done the next day i again received a personal phone call from My doctor stating the kidneys looked fine but they found something in My ovaries that needed to be checked out He than suggested i see a specialist in Albany i agreed we set an appointment with Him. My husband and i meet with the doctor He looked at the report and said i had nothing to worry about that it was a functional cyst that would be gone next month Great news to hear nothing serious what a relief

The following Month i had an annual physical with my doctor He asked Me what the doctor had said , i told him what the doctor He said , My doctor said well its been a month lets do another ultrasound and see i agreed That test showed it was still there He wanted it to be further investigated this time i asked if i could go to My own GYN he said yes so i made an appointment He did another ultrasound then ordered a cat scan I received a phone call saying i had a solid mass in My ovary that needed to be removed but not to worry 1 in a thousand it would be cancer, it took me until April to finally have it removed ( i kept putting it off ) The surgery was schedule for April 10 th My doctor decided to remove both ovaries and do some cleaning while in there He said He would do Laparoscopic surgery which meant it would be day surgery and i would go home that after noon

When i woke up i found out there had been complications due to the mass being pressed on my bladder They had to do an incision and call in a urologist to help which meant i would not be going home that day. The following day my doctor came in said everything looked good the mass was being sent out but not to worry 1 in a thousand chance it would be cancer went home to recover from surgery In May i went to have my stitches removed...

My doctor was looking over My pathology report and i saw He's face drop He looked at Me and said I am so so sorry it was cancer.

I should have removed everything I am so sorry i need to send you to a GYN cancer doctor to see what He thinks, they made my appointment with the cancer doctor in Albany He read the report checked Me over and said i had stage 1 a ovarian cancer ( which was good news ) if i wanted to He could do another surgery and remove everything along with my appendix or i could be checked every 6 months for 3 years He felt everything was contained and hadn't spread any where else I agreed and I am here today cancer free.

I know many others who has gone through a long rough road with their cancer and i feel very blessed that mine was an easy one i do have complications due to surgery ( pelvic floor dysfunction which i have pain everyday but all is great praise God for having His hand on My life and for such a wonderful Doctor who cares enough about his patients that He goes above and beyond I just want to say Women ovarian cancer is not screened and symptoms don't show up until later stages when its usually to late...Ask your GYN for a yearly ultrasound , it could save your life

On My 56th Birthday i decided to change My life style That Day i walked 3 miles to the store and another 3 miles back i changed to a clean eating ( 95 % ) after much research i have decided on eating paleo and have continued walking everyday and joined a fitness center

Laurie keep climbing for cancer research proud You are My sister

  2. Amazing Manaslu Trek”
Four of us (+plus our fantastic guide Sanjib ) did the Manaslu Circuit in May 2016 . The whole experience was absolutely brilliant, in no small part thanks to Nepal Planet Treks . They got all the necessary documents ready for us so we didn't have to hassle ourselves with any paperwork.
Our guide was wonderful - he not only made sure we stayed on the right track, but answered all our questions about local life, made sure we always had the best accommodation and even went so far as to cook us dinner! I can safely say, he truly became on of our group.
I definitely recommend this company to anyone going trekking in Nepal. Friendly, honest, helpful and go above and beyond!
